River Lea Vale Walk

This is one of the many walks in the area. A "Lea Valley Walk" (or a "Lee Valley Walk") can be enjoyed both in the Lower Lea Valley, and also in the upper reaches of the River Lee (River Lea). This walks starts at Bow Creek, near Bromley By Bow, and ends in St. James Street. The walk goes past the Olympic Park and heads towards Tottenham Hale (turning off at Springfield Marina).

These walks start at 1.00 pm from outside House Mill, near Tesco at Bromley by Bow (Three Mill Lane, London E3 3DU). The walk ends at St. James Street

Next walk Sunday 28th February 2010
The complete walk is about 8 kilometres (5 miles) and will probably take between two and three hours.
The walk is free of charge, but donations to the House Mill would be welcomed.
Transport
Transport: by car to Bow Interchange, and then South on the slip road (Hancock Road, alongside the A12) to the Tesco car park where you should be able to park there for up to two hours. Alternatively on a single yellow line nearby (and parking bays on Sundays). Note that this walk ends at St. James Street
Bromley by Bow Tube, Bow Road DLR (or Devons Road DLR). Buses 25, D8, 276, 425 (High Street, Stratford) or 488, 108 (Hancock Road, Tesco)

The Route
The route might vary, depending on access. The crossing of Walthamstow Marshes will depend on the state of the ground. The walk is towards Tottenham Hale along the River Lea Valley.

2) Three Mills Lock, City Mill Lock
3) Lea Navigation passing Lock Keeper's Cottages at Old Ford Lock
4) Middlesex Filter Beds, Pond Lane Flood Gates and Lea Bridge Sluices
5) Walthamstow Marshes
6) Coppermill Lane
7) St. James Street Station
This walk is about 8 kilometres. Trains from St. James Street go to Hackney Downs and Liverpool Street and many other destinations. Bus 158 goes towards Stratford.
